I have just bought the Yoga for Pregnancy DVD. I am 7 weeks pregnant and was hoping to gently help my body start preparing. Can you tell me why in is not advised to practice yoga prior to 14 weeks?

The first trimester is a very tiring time, when your body is having to work hard to literally 'build' the baby, so it is always advised to rest a lot and not to do any strenuous exercise. Whilst yoga is by no means strenuous, we are always advised as teachers to take people following their first scan to be sure that everything is okay, and we are only insured to do just that. There is no evidence that yoga has brought on miscarriages, but as with most things during this early stage, it is best to be safe and to go easy. What you & your midwife decide is best for you is obviously completely your perogative, though I can not advise anyone to do yoga nor to use the dvd before 12 to 14 weeks.
