Hi,
Just wanted to enquire about any risks associated with the yoga I am performing. I have been using the buddhabellies intermediate dvd class up to 6 times per week and am now 6 months pregnant. I thoroughly enjoy this, however have noticed more recently that I feel as though I am sqishing my uterus as I bend from the waist ! Also I have been experiencing pain in my hips on occasions through the night, after Yoga practice. What should I do as I find the beginners section not sufficient for what I would like to achieve?

Hi,
As your pregnancy progresses you need to just gently moderate your practic and certain poses in accordance with how you feel. So, for example, if you feel that you are squashing your uterus, do not bend as deeply, or try bending with very soft knees. It is also good to use a chair or a wall for support, just making sure that the back is elongated and you dont sag between the shoulder blades.
It sounds as though you are doing a lot of yoga, which in theory is fine, though if you are experiencing hip pain, it might be beneficial to either reduce your practice a little, or moderate the poses so as to be gentle on the body. During pregnancy the body produces relaxin which helps soften the ligaments in preparation for birth. Whilst this is a good thing, it can increase the chance of over-stretching, so be careful with wide-legged positions and never do anything that feels at all painful.
The beauty of yoga is that you dont need to do outlandish things or push yourself too hard to see the physical and mental benefits, so my advice would be to always be gentle with yourself.
With very best wishes.

Hello, Im 17 weeks pregnant and new to yoga.
I`ve been using the dvd now every morning, for 3 weeks around 6.30 am, which is the most ideal time for me, however i find at this time i seem to be constantly fighting morning stiffness and am worried that im not improving as i should be beacause of this.
Is pre-natel yoga recommended at this time?

Yoga has several exercises or postures that work wonders on a woman's health and in pregnancy conditions. Varying widely in application and style, these exercises (postures) gently stretch and explore all parts of your body.
During pregnancy, yoga Asanas are a gentle way to keep active and supple. The remarkable effects of these postures in pregnancy show the power of yoga for ensuring a smooth pregnancy, natural childbirth and restoration of body shape after childbirth.
