Doula Services in Oxfordshire & beyond!

A ‘doula’ is a woman who supports a mother and her family through the experience of childbirth. Her role is to provide continuity of care, emotional and physical support in the latter stages of pregnancy and throughout labour. Less formally, a doula can be your ‘reassurance on speed-dial’ and a guarantee that through the momentous experience that is your baby’s birth you will have the support of someone both experienced but also familiar.

Occasionally a doula is a woman’s sole birth partner, but more often than not she works alongside the father of the baby, an extra pair of hands and a source of reassurance for him as well.

The doula package

  • 2 antenatal visits ( for approx 2 hours each time)
  • On call 24 hours a day from 10 days before your due date until when your baby arrives
  • Continuous support throughout the birth
  • 2 postnatal visits

When choosing a doula, the most important thing is finding someone that you feel entirely comfortable with, so it is important that you shop around. Initial meetings are, of course, free of any charge.

Endorsements

‘The over-riding thing about having Nicole as my doula was that she gave me strength and confidence. From the moment she arrived at the house her calm and her voice became my focus for labour.’ Danielle Lentaigne, Mother to Savannah

‘‘I was lucky enough to have an amazing, completely natural birth, which I believe is in no small way due to Nicole’s wisdom, guidance and reassurance. I can’t thank her, or recommend her, enough!’
Kate Williams, Mother to Josie

About Nicole

I am originally from Australia but moved to England when I was eighteen and have lived here ever since. I have three children who were all born in very different ways; at home, in water and by caesarean so I have experienced first-hand the full spectrum of births.

I trained in 2000 to be a Yoga for Pregnancy and Active Birth teacher at the Active Birth Centre in London, under the guidance of Janet Balaskas, and have been teaching classes and workshops ever since. I have also attended workshops by many of the great names in the world of birth; Michel Odent, Sheila Kitzinger, Ina May Gaskin and Dr Sarah Buckley. I am also a qualified doula with Nurturing Birth and have written a book,‘The Good Birth Companion’ , that was published by Vermillion in May 2011.
